Hey Team -
Great job out there today. Keep up the good work.
I thought today it would be fun to share a couple very important things with you.
There were two times in my life, so far, that I was like "you know what would be a great idea? If I were to ink my body permanently forever and ever even if my gramma doesn't like it"
Just kidding. The thought process was a little more in depth. But not kidding on the part where my gramma doesn't like it.
But nonetheless. I am inked. And I like it. And I still want more ink. But I love the thought process, the waiting, the creating, the moment of it all when you finally decide that it is important enough... It's really fun and thrilling and beautiful.
A common question I hear from you guys is "What tatoo do you have on your foot?" and "What does it mean?" and "Is that a fish on your foot?"
No guys. It's not a fish.
You have never asked about my neck, probably because it is hard to take a classic blogger selfie photo of your own neck. So I haven't done that. And you haven't seen it. I promise. I have tried.
The Anchor:
"So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God's inner sanctuary." Hebrews 6: 18-19
Albert Barnes breaks the verse down, better than I ever could...
"Hope accomplishes for the soul the same thing which an anchor does for a ship. It makes it fast and secure. An anchor preserves a ship when the waves beat and the wind blows, and as long as the anchor holds, so long the ship is safe, and the mariner apprehends no danger. So with the soul of the Christian. In the tempests and trials of life, his mind is calm as long as his hope of heaven is firm. If that gives way, he feels that all is lost. Both sure and steadfast. Firm and secure. This refers to the anchor. That is fixed in the sand, and the vessel is secure."
The Anchor to me is a symbol and reminder of unwavering hope. Hope in things that matter, last, transform, heal, and free. I got it during a time in my life where I realized these are the only things that are un-changing. The only things that matter. And I decided to mark this hope forever.
The Claddagh:
The claddagh was my first tattoo. I got it in Harvard Square in Boston, near
this awesome girl. I went there with one of my college BFFs with a mission to get this tattoo. It almost didn't work out, until the MORNING we were leaving and he was like "NO. We HAVE to do this!!! You will regret it if you don't!!" And he was right. So we basically went to this tattoo shop with a photo in hand at 11am (that's how all the cool kids do it) and were there for about an hour. I limped all the way through the airport, happy as a clam with my new ink.
The Claddagh is the traditional Irish wedding ring. It signifies love (the heart), friendship (the hands) and loyalty (the crown). My parents have Claddaghs as their wedding rings. My mom passed down one of here Claddaghs to me (that is the tradition) and I wore it as my promise ring when I was a teenager. A promise to save my body and heart for love and marriage. The ring and the symbol hold so many meanings for me, but the tattoo, to me, is a symbol of the promise I kept to God to wait for my husband, and now a promise I keep to Burley to remain his forever, in love, friendship and loyalty.
And that's it. Those are my little baby tatoos. I hope to give them a mother of a masterpiece some day... but for now they make me happy, I am proud of them, and I wouldn't change them for the world.
Do you have any tattoos? What are they? Do they have meanings you want to share? I would love to hear about them!
TTFN,
